Tast of Tandoor

The Taste of Tandoor located at 13836 Smoketown Road, in Woodbridge, Virginia is a wonderfully pleasant and relaxing place to dine for lunch or dinner.  Although not a completely vegan restaurant the owner Dave has worked very hard to meet the needs of his vegan patrons by having nine main vegan dishes permanently on the menu such as Chana Masala, Aloo Masala, and Aloo Ghobi Masala.

They also have two appetizers and several vegan breads.  The appetizer vegetable samosa is a delicious vegetable turnover stuffed with potatoes, green peas, cumin seeds and spices.  It come with two types of dipping sauces but a word of advice, the green dip is not vegan so be sure to avoid it.  Besides your everyday salads Taste of Tandoor serves kachumbar which is a delicious cucumber and onion salad with lemon herbs.

Dave is such a pleasant and soft spoken gentleman who seeks not only to meet the needs of his vegan patrons but he also seeks to tantalize their taste buds.  While dining for lunch he came over to talk with me after noticing that I chose not to take part in the buffet instead ordering all vegan items from the menu.  He spoke of how he customizes meals for vegans by replacing animal and dairy products with such things as tofu and coconut milk.  He even made me a vegan mango lassi that was absolutely amazing, reminding me of my childhood favorite creamsicle.  I will definitely go back for it again and again!

The restaurant is beautifully designed with its white linen table clothes and subtle water fountain.  If you happen to come during lunch which is from eleven o’clock to two-thirty then you can enjoy at least two to three items available on their buffet or you can order from the regular menu. If you happen to be dining on a Friday or Saturday evening between five-thirty and nine-thirty you will not only enjoy your food but the live music being played by the pianist.  I must say that the Taste of Tandoor is now one of my favorite places to eat in Woodbridge, Virginia.
