Green Festivals, America’s largest and longest running sustainability and green living trade show, is having their annual event in New York City! It will be held this weekend, April 26-27, at Pier 94, from 8am to 6pm. Dedicated to the principles of creating a sustainable planet, Green Festivals will have over 200 exhibitors, partners, and sponsors at the New York City festival.  Dr. Corinne Basler, President of Green Festivals says, ” We believe Green Festivals is a dynamic marketplace that will have something for everyone.”

Dr. Basler was recently appointed President of Green Festivals. She had previously been involved with Messe Stuttgart, a company which organizes one of  Europe’s largest consumer trade shows focusing on sustainability, green products and fair trade. Now they have partnered with Green Festivals, who is in their 13th year as the premier sustainability and green living event in the US.

“That’s when I became involved,” says Basler. I’m very excited about that because, for me, it is not just a job. It is also a very, very strong personal commitment. I was vegetarian for 20 years and now I’ve been vegan for 10 years. It is a perfect fit.”  As a young woman, Corinna Basler was a passionate marathon runner. When she was 18 she was in the US for the New York City Marathon. She didn’t speak the language and she didn’t know anyone, but she found herself falling in love with the city. She seems pleased to be back in the Big Apple, promoting products and services which will help create healthier citizens and a healthier planet.

Visitors to New York City’s Green Festival will be able to sample delicious vegan and vegetarian foods in the festival’s bountiful food court, as well as sustainable wines and beers. There will be music and entertainment for the entire family. Fashion is a strong category during the event, showcasing a green fashion show, and there will be exhibitors who focus on organic beauty and spa products. There will even be exhibitors selling sustainable and organic products for your dogs and cats! There really is something for everyone at this event covering everything one would need to create a green household.

“We also have green building, and green transportation.  Uber brings on demand hybrid transportation to the festival, and Ford, who is one of our main sponsors again this year, will offer test drives of their hybrid cars right in front of the venue at Westside Highway in New York City.

Zip Cars offer a car sharing economy, which reflects Green Festivals’ core values, an awareness of our planet’s resources.  Ride sharing is an offering which is very exciting. Zip Cars will be present in New York as well as in the Washington, D.C. festival, representing a very strong trend in green transportation.

Several high profile speakers will present talks. Amy Goodman from NPR’s Democracy Now is a featured speaker and Nightline anchor, Dan Harris, will be discussing his book, 10% Happier. One of the country’s most successful tourism campaigns, I ♥ NY, is giving a presentation on their green initiative.

“You’ll have a chance to sample vegan and vegetarian foods and wine, so come in and enjoy yourself,” encourages Dr. Corinna Basler. ” We believe living green is a very fun way to live your life.”
