Posted by Danielle Bussone on Sep 26, 2015 in Charlottesville, VA, I-64, Italian, Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly | 0 comments
This is a post that is long overdue. In June of this year we attended the Richmond Vegetarian Festival and stayed in neighboring Charlottesville at a homey Air B&B where our dogs were welcomed. After the festival we arrived back at out lodging, tired and hungry. We sought out the quickest solution for a vegan meal. Calling around to various pizza establishments, we finally settled on Christian’s in downtown Charlottesville. Located in the walking mall it was a barely over a mile from where we were staying, at Fairhaven Guesthouse, located just minutes from downtown. (more…)

Chantal Poulin-Durocher — Changing Hearts And Minds Through Art

Canadian artist, Chantal Poulin, is on a mission. Driven by her passionate love for animals, Chantal creates huge, in-your-face paintings she hopes will not only fill the room with her evocative images but will fill your heart with empathy for the vulnerable animals she depicts.
My paintings are large because I want to give them the space they deserve. If I paint small it is just another animal painting. But when confronted with my paintings, they are so big you don’t have any choice but to look in their faces and feel something. When people come to my studio, they look at my paintings and at first they say, “Oh, it’s beautiful!” but when then they notice there is a tag in the cow’s ear or that the pig is in a truck going to the slaughterhouse, or they see the title “Please Don’t Kill My Friend,” then they begin to become uncomfortable. Enjoy Fresh Local Fare At Mossfire Grill, Jacksonville, FL!
Posted by Danielle Bussone on Sep 16, 2015 in I-10, I-95, Jacksonville, Southwestern US | 0 comments
Today was my best friend’s birthday so we went out to dinner to celebrate at the Mossfire Grill. The food here is outstanding and one of the reasons is because this enterprise is a farm to table restaurant.
For those of us who are not carnivores they offer dishes that include tempeh and tofu. The Mossfire Grill has a Southwest flair to their offerings and is located in the community of Riverside in Jacksonville. The specific area is called Five Points and the restaurant is a short walk from the five points intersection in the Riverside area of Jacksonville.

Where to begin?
It would be easy to start with something positive, such as “you never lose, you only learn” or “your greatest challenges hide your greatest lessons”, but this wouldn’t be just. I doubt that anybody during their ‘greatest challenge’ ever boasts a huge smile and says “I’m so happy to be in the midst of some brilliant future lesson.”

With heart disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes, dementia and other common and often fatal maladies on the rise, people are finally beginning to awaken to the fact that good health begins with what we choose to put on our plates. With mounting evidence that a diet largely consisting of plants can prevent and reverse many of these debilitating diseases, the world is beginning to embrace a plant-based, healthy lifestyle. That’s right, veganism has become cool. And it is high time.
Many fast food restaurants are jumping on the bandwagon and have begun to offer vegan options. Chipotles offers a couple of healthy vegan dishes, even eschewing the use of GMOs, and Wendy’s is now rumored to be creating a veggie burger. It’s a beginning.
On VOAA’s trip to Chicago to participate in VeggieFest Chicago this past weekend, we were blown away to discover Native Foods Café, a gem of a restaurant that offers nothing but healthy plant-based fare made from scratch. All vegan, all the time! What a concept!

Kate Strong — Attempts A New World Record To Inspire Conscious Living!
Posted by Danielle Bussone on Aug 5, 2015 in Living Plant-Strong! Profiles & Articles | 0 comments
She’s at it again! World Champion Long-Distance Triathlete, Kate Strong, aka Strong Kate, is creating a conscious living/fitness event that will take place in Wales, Britain on Sunday, December 6, 2015. She will be attempting a Guiness world record for the most miles ever achieved in one hour on a stationery bicycle. The fact that Kate has never been on a stationery bicycle is entirely beside the point. I spoke with Kate about this curious endeavor. After all, she competes constantly in world championships, ironman competitions and the like. Why a world record on a stationery bicycle?
Society loves labels; like you’re a vegan, you’re a triathlete and that sort of pockets you in a place you can’t easily break free from. I realized there is more to life than living one or two labels and I didn’t want to start limiting myself. Yet, part of my journey and my passion is to inspire others to live more consciously through positive change in their own lives. The way I do that is by attempting what most people think is impossible.
